168 days and counting.
And boy, oh boy, am I ever counting today. The Powers That Be here at the library have decided to give me a hard time about my weekly appointments to the PKU clinic at Mass General Hospital with my daughter Andriana. Despite the fact that I'm already making up the hours for that missed Thursday morning by coming in early the other four days of the week, my supervisor informed me today that this was in fact a Family Medical Leave Act situation, and that in order to go through with the plan I'd have to consult Human Resources, fill out a ream of forms, get documentation, and only then would I be okay to do this. Never mind that FMLA doesn't apply to situations when you're not asking for any time off!
No, this is Harvard Med School passive-aggressiveness at its finest. They lure in prospective employers with their self-avowed "family friendliness" and cool progressive workplace features such as flex time or educational release time, then proceed to discourage the rank and file from actually making use of it.
Well, they picked the wrong time to mess with me. I don't have much patience for bullshit these days, especially when it comes to matters involving my daughter.
168 days and counting.
