Mmm. Kung pao chicken from the Chinese food truck...

Well I appear to have reached a crossroads in my life. A job has opened up over in Cambridge that would enable me to work in the Modern Greek Unit at Widener, maintain my pay grade, and take care of Andriana in the mornings (which is good, because the trolls on the fifth floor here at Countway have already decided to make my life miserable about taking time off for my daughter's weekly PKU clinic). The only catch is that it's casual work, so I would work only 17 hours a week and there are no bennies. Granted, Maria can pick those up; and granted, we were going to end up paying out half my salary on child care to my sister-in-law starting in July anyway...

So wait. Why is this a dilemma? :)

The novel stands at 33,333 words, 125 pages. Now this is a legitimate crossroads. I still haven't gotten my protagonist out of his old 'hood yet, but I'm starting to wonder if this isn't a good thing. Maybe getting out of Dodge is the goal of the first installment, and that his future travels around the world aren't all their own novels. Without a doubt I have enough plot, characters, and scenery to get this up to about 50k in the word department (~175 pages), and it would be a relief to allow myself to linger and fill out the universe for the reader before changing everything up radically. Holy freaking cow, could this book almost be done?!?
