Meanwhile, the fools in the White House continue to pretend that everything is just hunky-dory in Iraq, as Donald Rumsfeld today re-iterated his belief that no additional troops would be needed to ensure peace and security in the face what pretty much everyone is describing as a protracted guerilla war and a resistance movement that goes well beyond the remnants of Saddam Hussein's regime. Now this is just asinine. We're nowhere near the proportion of soldiers to civilians that was needed during the successful peacekeeping operations of the 1990's, and every shooting and bombing that has happened in the Commander-in-Chief's "Mission Accomplished" speech on May 1st (remember that? Now there's a picture Dubya's going to wish hadn't been taken come Election 2004 if things don't start breaking his way in Baghdad) only serves to highlight this fact in painfully bold lettering. But does Rummy care? Hell, no! Why, if we send all those troops over to Iraq to make sure we don't fuck up that country even worse than we already have, we won't be able to fight all those other wars the Pentagon has drawn up the battle plans for, like against Iran, or Syria, or North Korea. So many countries to roll, so few troops to do the job. No wonder the armed forces are running recruitment ads on the radio stations and T.V. night and day. "An Army of One", my ass!

(See, this is why I've been avoiding politics of late!)
