"The Classical Heritage in Islam". It's a quick read, considering more than half the book consists of translated passages from the Arabic manuscripts in question, which are good for skimming but not all that interesting without the original Greek (if available) and the corresponding Arabic (which I don't know anyhow, yet). A useful book to come back to.
Now I'm working on "From Byzantium to Italy", by Nigel Wilson, which is about the classical tradition in Renaissance Italy and from the introduction alone looks like a fantastic book. Unfortunately it's meant to be a continuation of another of Wilson's books - "Scholars of Byzantium" - which I left at home this morning, inexplicably. D'oh! So here's the dilemma: do I press on with the Renaissance book today and tackle the Byzantine one after, or do I just blog and play Stickfight for the rest of the afternoon?
Tough call.
