I just had a conversation with one of Dimitri Gutas' (Greek Thought, Arabic Culture) colleagues from Yale University. We had a very interesting conversation about the dead-end nature of modern Classical Studies while I checked about a hundred books out to her study carrell. She said that the field of comparative literature gets an awful lot of refugees from the Classics, and that I should seriously consider Yale if I was thinking about the Ph.D.
Did I mention that she knows Dimitri Gutas? Yes, I know I'm a dork. So leave me alone!
