A better title.
I think books such as the one below and Hebrew is Greek are more properly termed "extreme Hellenism", a genre I just thought of that would encompass the study of the very outermost fringe (hence "extreme" in its original sense) of Greek cultural and linguistic influence, be it geographic or chronological, real or imaginary. I'm not sure if such a subdiscipline already exists, but it would be a terribly interesting one, a survey of modern folk traditions and etymologies involving the Hellenic world. The goal however would not be to debunk, but to describe. Even if as wrong as wrong can be, modern mythologies are able to give us a glimpse into the psychology of the people who cherish them, and thus are worth collecting and studying in their own right. I feel another monograph coming on...
