Fun with microfilm -
today while wearing my Cataloging hat I got a chance to bring some disorder to the chaos known as our microfilm holdings for Greek language newspapers. Generally we only keep the most recent year of a given paper, after which time they are filmed for posterity and then tossed (rather than being bound and shelved in the regular collection like the magazines and periodicals). Theoretically speaking, when this is done our holdings records should reflect the new additions to the microfilm collection; unfortunately this has not been the case for our daily and weekly Greek newspapers in quite some time. It was my job to begin to straighten out this mess in the catalog, and surprisingly enough it was less of a headache than I thought it would be. I think there's something about setting things in their proper place that just appeals to me on a certain level, at least as far as library matters are concerned. Would that I could apply this obsession to other aspects of my life!
