I made a big decision

regarding my teaching schedule for the Summer. Not only am I not going to be offering my customary classes at The Greek Institute while I'm taking courses at Simmons in late June and the whole month of July, but I will stop teaching as of Memorial Day, so as to take a little break before the intensive Hell that will be my re-introduction to life as a college student commences. At first I felt that maybe that I was asking for too much in wanting the month of June off in its entirety, but found myself surprised at how encouraging both my students and my boss were about my doing so. I guess I've really been overdue for an extended break like this, after four years of teaching more or less continuously!

Although I'll miss my students, they'll be waiting for me in August, once I'm through the Summer school meat-grinder. My primary concern is finding time to write during this two-month vacaction, since right now the lion's share of my output has been during the commute home from teaching in the evenings. I guess I'll still be taking the train home at night from my library science classes, but for the month of June I might just have to learn how to write at home. After all, what happens if ever some publisher decides I'm worth a sizable advance - would I have no choice then but to ride the commuter trains in and out of Boston constantly in order to meet my deadlines?

Maybe I can sit out on the bedroom porch and peck away at the PDA... just as long as I keep the bug repellent handy!
