It just keeps getting better, doesn't it? Fresh on the heels of Ahmed Chalabi's fall from neocon grace is the revelation that he and his Iraqi National Congress have been working as a front for Iranian intelligence over the past several years, passing on disinformation to the Pentagon while keeping Tehran apprised of everything the United States and its Coalition have been up to in Iraq.
If this is true, then not only are the neoconservatives fools for having trusted Chalabi in the first place, but they've allowed themselves to be duped by none other than another member of the so-called "Axis of Evil" into doing their bidding - namely, the removal of Saddam Hussein and the military defeat of Iraq - at no cost to the Iranians in terms of blood or treasure. Hell, we were paying their agents to feed us a steady stream of anti-Saddam bullshit!
And surely it should give us all pause that Tehran's goal just so happened to coincide with Tel Aviv's (Israeli hawks have been calling for Saddam's ouster for years now, and selectively manipulating their own intelligence to exaggerate the threat he posed not just to Israelis but the Middle East and the world at-large)- when do Iran and Israel ever see eye to eye on anything?*
This is one rabbit hole I'm definitely not looking forward to seeing the bottom of!
* The answer to this question is really quite simple: with us on the ground in Iraq, theoretically able to invade any adjacent country, Israel feels safer geopolitically (if not in actuality); while with Saddam's strong Sunni government shattered, Iran is now relatively free to meddle in the affairs of Iraqi Shiites. It's a win-win situation for everyone but the occupying power...
