One week down
Well, I've successfully made my way through my first week of (intensive) library school - four weeks to go now. Although I fully expected to learn a thing or two in my Reference and Information Systems class, I must admit that I am surprised at how much useful information I've gotten out of my Principles of Management course already. Even before I had submitted my admissions application to Simmons College I was dreading the latter course, having to come to think of it as the last step in one's professional education as a librarian wherein they removed any traces you had left of a soul. But a lot of that jaundiced eye may have been due to my surroundings at the time at the Med School Library, where it was hard to find a staff member who wasn't nursing about five or six grievances at any given time. Things are different here - at least for me - so perhaps now that I'm in a better place both figuratively and literally I'm more receptive to the possibility that library management isn't inherently evil...
