Opa!

After a stunning 2-1 upset over host nation Portgual in the opening game of Eurocup 2004, the Greeks have done it again, coming from behind to force Spain to a 1-1 draw (this after the Spaniards' vow to avenge Greece beating them in the qualifiers). Greece and Spain now share the lead in Group A, eagerly awaiting the outcome of Portugal's attempt to reclaim its national honor in a match against Russia, who is competing in the Eurocup finals for the very first time since the fall of the Soviet Union. Right now it's 1-0 Portugal, but the Russians are playing a tough game - the best case scenario for the Greeks would be a victory for Russia, as it would effectively knock out Portugal, but a draw would also be nice. The final matches for the group will be on Sunday, when Greece faces Russia in a game that I'm sure I'll be watching with my brother-in-law...

Update: Portugal beat Russia, 2-0. This means that Greece can advance to the next round either by a win or a draw - let's hope it's a win against a now twice-vanquished Russia!
