May's writing output was only about half that of April, coming in at roughly 4,000 words. I'm sure that has more to do with my teaching schedule - which was very erratic this past month - than it does with a lack of inspiration, as in fact not only am I nearing 13k on "High Tide", but I think I've found a way to go directly to the third and final act of "Confessions" in a way that resolves the tension of the previous chapters while keeping the momentum headlong to the final core plot resolution, which I fear I was losing sight of during my protagonist's little excursion into the realm of high fantasy (and that's the funny part, since the theme of this subplot was about getting lost - both literally and figuratively!). The novel right now has been teetering on the precipice of becoming something much larger than it should be at this point in our hero's story, and fortunately I think I've figured out how to take advantage of that promise of future adventure without plunging headlong into a narrative abyss. I know this would make a hell of a lot more sense if you knew what this novel was about, but I've resolved to keep that close to my chest until it's time to start shopping it around, not so much because I'm worried that someone will steal the idea but that I fear that spilling the beans about it will lessen my enthusasiasm to finish it.
So you're just going to have to wait, I'm sorry to say!
