128k

I had a nice spell of writing on the train ride home last night after class. Sometimes it works like that -- instead of being too fried to think, the brain is positively crackling with creative energy and the words just seem to fall into place, coming out faster than I can jot them down (although I've become quite proficient in the art of touch-typing with a stylus on a tiny virtual keyboard!).

Act Two may in fact be over, but I think I'm starting to hedge on my initial predictions that the third act will be swift and merciless, as what I thought would be little narrative asides here and there are mushrooming into their own self-contained episodes as I give them proper consideration. This is not necessarily a bad thing, so long as they add to the plot and not derail it.

Now I'm wondering if this novel might not make it to 200k after all!

Have you ever considered a voice recorder? They are quite handy for when you get bits and pieces flowing in that make sense. You can quickly capture them and write them in at your leisure.

I've thought about doing that. Back when I was working primarily on short stories I'd use the recording feature on my PDA to jot down ideas before they got reshuffled in my brain and lost for another six months or so. Definitely a good idea, though.
