That's right, you heard me correctly: WRITING UPDATE!
For a couple of weeks now I've been walking to the train again in the mornings, which means I've had a chance to get back into a writing groove during the ride in. And with a laptop instead of my old trusty iPaq in tow (sorry, little buddy!), I've been able to crank out an entire short story thus far - 6000 words in total.
The idea is to write a mess of short stories until I feel I've shaken all of the rust out of my brain, at which time I'll go back to the new novel-in-progress that I abandoned last year as my life got wicked busy. All of the stories will be set in the same fantasy realm that I've explored in "Confessions" and "The Librarian's Tale", my NaNoWriMo 2006 novel, and will intertwine somewhat with one another and feature some of the characters from the two books.
Speaking of the books, it's been five years since I started writing Confessions, during which time I've completed two drafts, a polish, and solicited a few rounds of feedback from an ever-widening circle of trusted readers. Well, now it's time to start with the queries - I've done all of my research at this point, selected some potential publishers (there aren't all that many to begin with these days in the fantasy genre), and obsessed over my query letter. All I have to do is pull the trigger and send the damned thing already.
Which I'm going to do... tonight. So wish me luck!
