Say it isn't so, Sammy - Chicago Cubs outfielder and "Five Hundred Club" member (with 505 career home runs to his name) Sammy Sosa was ejected from last night's game against the Devil Rays for using a corked bat, which shattered during his first inning at-bat. For the baseball challenged, corking your bat enables the ball to travel farther and is considered a big no-no. In his defense, Sosa is claiming that he accidentally mixed up practice and game bats, which is conceivable I guess, but again begs the question of why he's using corked bats at all, for play or for show. In either case, what a shame.
p.s., "Amber" has broken the 4,000-word mark. Now I'm starting to worry about keeping it small - how is it that I've gone from being unable to write more than a coherent paragraph at a time to having a hard time with keep a short story under fifty pages?
