Was Paul Wolfowitz been infected with some kind of truth-telling virus? Less than a week after telling Vanity Fair that the (non)issue of Iraq's Weapons of Mass Destruction was chosen by the Bush junta for "bureaucratic reasons", today's Guardian reports Wolfy claiming before a summit on Asian security in Singapore over the weekend that the real reason for war against Saddam Hussein - as opposed to, say, North Korea, whose WMD threat is real and not theoretical (or imaginary) - is that Iraq is "swimming in oil".

So much for my being a paranoid, naive stooge of the left. Turns out Noam Chomsky was right! How do you like them apples?

Update: Apparently the Guardian took the Wolfowitz quote wayyyyyyy out of context. Bad Guardian. Nevertheless, the unbelievably hubristic behavior exhibited by Wolfowitz and other members of the Administration in the wake of the our "victory" in Iraq is very disturbing, to say the least. Despite Dubya's May Day Address from the deck of the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln announcing the end of hostilities, American boys and girls are still being shipped back in body bags from the 51st State, at an average of one serviceman per day. That comes to 3,650 for a potential 10-year occupation, which is roughly equivalent of one September 11th. And that's assuming that everything goes well...
