Feeling the itch.

An itch in the brain, that is. For the first time since I began writing nearly a year ago, I'm feeling the urge to write something scholarly and nonfictional in nature. The more I've been stumbling upon bits and pieces of the pronunciation issue in my reading, the more the shape of an essay has been forming in my head, to the point that I want to sit down and scribble out an outline for it right now. It's a three-pronged attack, one that will attack the pseudo-scientific Erasmian scheme on the issues of historical continuity and relevance as a legitimate issue first ,and saving the technical objections for the end. The beauty of this approach is that there are so many "soft" points that are clearly in favor of the modern pronunciation that by the time I get to the "hard" stuff, it'll merely punctuate the already-made argument. Or so I hope!
