Book of the day:

Author : Kümmel, Martin.
Title : Das Perfekt im Indoiranischen : eine Untersuchung der Form und Funktion einer ererbten Kategorie des Verbums und ihrer Weiterentwicklung in den altindoiranischen Sprachen / von Martin Joachim Kümmel.
Published : Wiesbaden : Reichert, 2000.

For those of you who don't speak German, this is a 755-page book about the perfect tense in the Indo-Iranian family of languages - almost eight hundred pages (admittedly, in German, which runs a little long) about one tense of the Indo-Iranian verb. You could kill an elephant with a book like this. I hope the person who checked this out today enjoys himself; I almost want to recall the book right now, so I can take a gander at it sooner rather than later, because I've been interested in the use of the perfect in Greek, and would appreciate the cross-linguistic perspective from a related language.

But then again, it's in German. I'd probably only make it through the table of contents before the patron recalled the book right back again from me!
