Look out, Wolfgang Petersen!
Tomorrow morning I'm going to a casting call for a bit part in a documentary about the Trojan War. I was put in touch with the production company by a mutual acquaintance, as they were looking for an "Ancient Greek expert" whom they could tap for some historical information about Greece in Homer's day (as well as the epic Greece of Homer's imagination), such as details about Bronze Age weapons and armor and what written Greek would have looked like back when the Iliad and the Odyssey were first composed. Answering the latter question landed me a potential gig as a scribe in a scene or two, pending a thumbs-up from the Casting department; and fortunately I already have the morning off since we're on reduced hours for the end of the term. So why not go and give it a whirl? The funny thing is that I've been thinking about hanging out my shingle as a Classics consultant for a while now, though I have to say the acting opportunity is a little out of left field. Well, wish me luck!
