I'm happy to report that "Confessions" has broken the 80,000-word mark. After a summer of spotty writing, I've really gotten a good head of steam working again; and now that my fall schedule has more or less crystallized, I'm hoping to cross the 100k plateau and perhaps even reach the end of the novel by the holidays.
Psychologically speaking, I think this is a big milestone - it means that the end may be no more than the equivalent of a short story or two away. After almost two years of writing, I've finally crossed the metaphorical ocean. Now I'm just waiting for first sight of land...
