The gay menace

Via MSNBC:

The nation’s new education secretary denounced PBS on Tuesday for spending public money on a cartoon with lesbian characters, saying many parents would not want children exposed to such lifestyles.

The not-yet-aired episode of “Postcards From Buster” shows the title character, an animated bunny named Buster, on a trip to Vermont — a state known for recognizing same-sex civil unions. The episode features two lesbian couples, although the focus is on farm life and maple sugaring.

Scared yet?

Although it seems that PBS has decided to capitulate to the demands of Margaret Spellings and the American Taliban and not distribute the episode in question, WGBH, the Boston public television station responsible for "Arthur" and the spin-off "Postcards From Buster", has announced that not only will it show the episode but make it available to other stations.

It disgusts me that Secretary Spellings should train her guns on the "Arthur" franchise, which offers smartly-written shows that not only encourage things like diversity and tolerance but a healthy love for libraries as well:

Having fun isn't hard,
When you've got a library card.
Having Fun...
Who's Dewey?!!!!!

Doesn't she have better things to do, like gutting our public school system or calling our teachers terrorists? It's going to be a long four (more) years...
