More good news from Iraq

In case you thought Riverbend of Baghdad Burning was exaggerating about Iraq's postwar "return" to good ol' Islamic values, here's an article from Newsweek to scare the hell out of you. Not only have religious vigilantes been intimidating women such as Riverbend for doing such immoral things as travelling outside of the home alone or not wearing the hijab, but apparently they have also been kidnapping and murdering other such independent women.

Say what you will about Saddam, but at least under his regime women weren't abducted and beheaded for the "crime" of being female and having a career. If by the time we leave Iraq half of the nation is condemned to live their lives locked away within the house and behind the veil, what exactly will we have achieved in the name of freedom and democracy?
