On Sunday my brother-in-law and I officially inaugurated the 2005 fishing season by staking out a promising bit of rocky promontory in Gloucester Harbor and trying our luck with a box of bloodworms and a package of fresh-frozen bait. "Trying" being the operative word here, for although we were soon joined by other fishermen who did in fact pull a striped bass or two out of the water, we were unsuccessful in catching any ourselves. It seems the stripers in Gloucester Harbor prefer artificial lures to bait (or so the locals aver), so we're thinking about changing our tactics for next weekend and investing in some jigs, poppers, and plugs.
We'll even the score yet!
