I've been revising the end of Chapter Sixteen in "Confessions" a bit, because in retrospect it felt a little abrupt. Now it's downright heart-wrenching. I think I know now why I wanted to avoid dealing with the scene at hand -- however necessary it is to the overall plot, it's a difficult one to write. Fortunately I had a nice uninterrupted spell of writing on the train home this evening; another night and I think the chapter will be in good enough shape to leave until the second draft.
