14k

I know that all I'm posting here these days is word counts and other benchmarks from my latest writing projects, for which I apologize. But seeing that no less an authority than Google CEO Eric Schmidt tells us that the average readership for any given blog is one (i.e., the author), maybe there's no need for apologies...

Hee - is that true? Actually, I have been checking here to see if you're going to say you've updated your librarian of Library Ass blog. (I just started an MLIS program.)

Darnit! It's so much easier not to post when you know that no one is out there reading...

:)

Congratulations on starting library school! Where are you going?

I am going to Simmons. The "program" or what-have-you is called GSLIS West because it's taught at Mt. Holyoke College in western Massachusetts on Saturdays. This way it's possible for me to commute. I'm only taking one course - Reference and Information Services - and I've been kind of slacking on some aspects of it, but there is still a ton of work. Anyway, I'm glad I'm going, but I need to focus more, and I'm having trouble with that.

I notice that you live in Gloucester. That is quite interesting because all my summers growing up I spent in Rockport, and now my mom (and dad before he died) and my sister live there. What library do you work at? My mom is a major patron of the Rockport Library; she goes through 3 to 4 books a week.

Anyway, thanks for replying to my comment. I must admit I have not read that much of your blogs, but I probably should check the archives to read your library school posts. Did you go to Simmons?

I *did* go to Simmons (graduated last December)! Who's teaching the Reference course out at Mt. Holyoke? Yeah, maintaining focus can be a challenge, especially if you have a real life -- oh, for the care-free days of being a college student!

My family and I moved out to Gloucester a year and a half ago, after living for several years in Lynn and then Peabody (though as my blog title suggests I'm originally from Jersey). We love it on Cape Ann, even in the winter, and hopefully the apartment we've settled into will be our home for years to come.

As for my job, I actually work at Harvard -- I supervise one of the reading rooms at Widener Library. It's not quite a professional job, and I am looking for my first librarian gig, but in the meantime it's a great job for decent pay in one of the coolest libraries in the world. So I'm not exactly complaining...
