One down, eighteen to go.

Last night the Red Sox hammered away at the Yankees in a messy but ultimately gratifying 6-2 victory before the Fenway Park faithful. To a great many Boston fans this is the true season opener - the first series against the Bronx Bombers, our arch-rivals. Due to an unbalanced playing schedule that pits teams in the same division against each other nineteen times, we'll be seeing an awful lot of the Yanks yet, but there's a psychic duel already going between the two teams, and it's naive to think that these first few meetings don't mean anything in the grand scheme of things. Game Two is going on as we speak, with new Sox ace Curt Schilling facing off against Mike "The Moose" Mussina. Wish I could be home watching it, but MLB's Gamecast will just have to do.

Hey! Boston's up after 2 innings, 2-0...

A funny thing happened to Sox center fielder Johnny Damon's hair on the way to the 2004 baseball season. Damon, who is now sporting a Christ-like mane of hair, is of course not the first Major League Baseball player to sport bizarre tonsorial habits - ESPN's Page Two provides a hilarious history of the game's most daring dos.

Final score: 5-2, Red Sox win. Woo-hoo! Two down, seventeen to go...
